Covid-19: Professor Bruno Mégarbane fears a “rise in contamination” at the start of the school year

Invited on the set of 23 hours of Franceinfo Friday August 13, Professor Bruno Mégarbane, head of the intensive care unit at the Lariboisière hospital in Paris, deciphers the projections of the Institut Pasteur concerning the number of hospital admissions in the start of the school year.

The Institut Pasteur has published projections on the fourth wave of Covid-19, including the risk of reaching a peak in hospital admissions at the beginning of September. “Unfortunately, we can expect that with the return to school, with the cooling of the temperature, with the return of a much more active social and economic life indoors, there could be an increase in contamination and therefore unfortunately, these models can be mistaken, i.e. the real situation can be even more serious”says Professor Bruno Mégarbane, head of the intensive care unit at the Lariboisière hospital in Paris, on the set of 23 hours of Franceinfo Friday August 13.

If the Institut Pasteur’s hypotheses are confirmed, “we would roughly reach the level of the third wave. Obviously, we are far from that of the first wave”emphasizes Professor Bruno Mégarbane. “But we are still reaching the level of the third wave with a more worrying situation in PACA and Occitanie”he adds.
