Alcoholism, Baclofen allowed

Baclofen can be used legally in the treatment of alcoholism in the coming days, for a temporary period of three years.

Green light and controversy for a temporary prescription, Baclofen, which dramatically reduces the desire for alcohol, will soon be able to come to the aid – completely legally – to the victims of this addiction. Professor Philippe Jaury, general practitioner, welcomes this: “It’s been 30 years that I see a lot of patients with alcohol problems, it amazed me a lot (…) Patients who tell me that they don’t think about it, that they don’t feel like it anymore, who don’t finish their drink”Others, specialists, have serious doubts about the effectiveness of this treatment. “Alcohol dependence is a complex disease (…) To think that there is a drug that will completely eradicate this disease is delusional“, gets carried away Philippe Batel, addictologist. In France, nearly 100,000 patients have already benefited from this treatment, even though it was still out of marketing authorization.
