Emmanuel Macron set up an independent mission on Thursday June 25 to assess the management of the coronavirus health crisis. The idea is to do “a few proposals that will allow our country to be in a better position in the future to manage the next crisis which will inevitably happen one day”, declared on franceinfo one of its five members, Pierre Parneix, public health doctor at the Bordeaux University Hospital. He also assures that he does not have “no worries” on the independence of the mission.franceinfo: Are you going to work independently?Yes, moreover the President of the Republic immediately insisted on the importance he attached to the total independence of this mission, both in his choice of method and in his conclusions. So I have no concerns on that side. In addition, I know Professor Didier Pittet well (the Swiss infectiologist who chairs the mission), he is a totally independent man and he is the world’s best specialist in the prevention of infectious risk and it is therefore, I think, a real opportunity for our country. How are you going to work to analyze the management of this crisis? The idea is to analyze the chronology of this crisis and its management in France, and to compare scientific knowledge at each stage, and also to provide a broad international view of the episode, to see how other countries have handled it. We will put all these elements into perspective to make some proposals that will allow our country to be in a better position in the future to manage the next crisis that will inevitably happen one day.Do you already have some perspective on the situation you experienced and do you already have any proposals? No, I believe that each of the actors of the mission experienced this crisis in their own way, with their expertise. This is what will enrich our exchanges. But at this stage we have no preconceived idea of the recommendations that we will make and that is all the work that we are going to do.
